Gordon Bull on transitioning learning
departments at Moving Learning 2006
Moving Learning | London, UK | 28 april 2006
Gordon Bull, Managing Director of Learning Forte and a former Global Director of Learning & Development at Vodafone is to present at Moving Learning 2006 on the transition that training departments need to make in order to become true business improvement partners.
Moving Learning 2006 is a one day seminar, sponsored by QA, Compu'train, Microsoft and LearningGuide, taking place at Microsoft Reading on 14 June and at Hotel Artemis Amsterdam on 15 June. Gordon's presentation will highlight the journey necessary for companies to move from training provision as a cost centre to added value learning as a business improvement process. He will illustrate this journey through his experiences as CLO for Entranet and as Director of Global Learning Management for Vodafone.
"Transitioning from the typical training department, often well versed in running courses, to a business improvement partner is a long and difficult journey," say Gordon. "Often you find that the training team lacks the skills required to make the transition, yet you can't simply hire the right talent in, simply because it often does not exist out there in the market in sufficient quantities. Your journey of transformation therefore is multi disciplined approach across the whole spectrum of staff development, learning and learning technologies. There is no quick fix and becoming a trusted business partner takes time."
Gordon's presentation will end with insights into where he thinks the learning function will be or should be going in the future and will include feedback from his recent participation in a Government sponsored eLearning Mission to the USA.
